Proceedings in the trial of former Imo State governor, Ikedi Ohakim, before Justice Adeniyi Ademola of the Federal High Court Abuja, resumed on Tuesday. At the resumed hearing, the prosecution witness gave a blow-by-blow account of how the former governor allegedly made a cash payment of $2, 290,000.00 (Two Million, Two Hundred and Ninety Thousand Dollars), for a piece of land at Plot No. 1098 Cadastral Zone A04, Asokoro District, otherwise known as No.60, Kwame Nkurumah Street, Asokoro, Abuja.

Nigerian military issues third “final” warming to Boko Haram

The Nigerian Military on Tuesday issued what it described as “Final Warning” to Boko Haram terrorists to desist from acts of terrorism, surrender themselves and face the law. The latest warning is third in the series of “final” warnings the military has issued and it came as President Muhammadu Buhari’s dateline to rid the country of insurgents approaches.

Former President Goodluck Jonathan’s Adviser on Media, Reuben Abati, has dismissed the widespread view that the former president lost the last election because of incompetence and cluelessness. Mr. Abati said in his first major interview in the October/November edition of The Interview out next week, that Mr. Jonathan was, “a victim of power game” and the vicious propaganda of the opposition.

The Deputy Senate President,‎ Ike Ekweremadu, has advised the governing All Progressives Congress, APC, to build on the successes recorded by the opposition Peoples Democratic Party, while it held power for 16 years or risk being pushed aside in 2019. Mr. Ekweremadu gave the advise on Thursday at the 67th meeting of he National Executive Committee meeting of the PDP, which held at the party’s national headquarters in Abuja.

How Kogi attack, Maiduguri bomb blasts happened– Nigerian Army

  The Nigerian Army has confirmed that a bomb explosion killed seven people in Maiduguri Tuesday evening. The army said three blasts detonated by suicide bombers occurred at three minutes intervals at Ajilari, Maiduguri Metropolitan Council, Borno State. Eleven people were injured and three suicide bombers were among the dead, the army said. The army also gave details of the attack at a Mosque, Okene, where soldiers clashed with militants on Tuesday.

As part of its commitment to increase the impact of human rights work in Nigeria, global rights organisation, Amnesty International has announced the opening of its Nigerian office on Tuesday. The new Nigerian office, which will be headed by M.K. Ibrahim, a former career diplomat, will bolster “ongoing campaigning and research on Boko Haram, military abuses, use of torture, forced evictions and the right to adequate housing and oil pollution in the Niger Delta”, the organisation said in a statement.
