$227million Abacha loot recovered from Liechtenstein

  There was a reason corruption charges was dropped against Mohammed Abacha, the eldest son of late former Nigerian Head of State, Gen, Sani Abacha. $227million stolen money has been recovered from the Abacha family. On June 25th Nigeria will receive $227million from the government of the Principality of Liechtenstein, Europe, as the nation is said to have agreed to release the stolen money. AFP reports that the federal government said today Thursday June 19th that it dropped the charges against Mohammed in a deal to allow the return of the Liechtenstein money. Mohammed Abacha is wanted in the US for his alleged part in laundering $458m in funds stolen by his late father and frozen by the U.S in February. Abacha, who died in 1998 and is believed to have stolen up to $5 billion.

Wanted terror kingpin among 486 arrested in Abia on Monday

The Nigerian military released a press statement this morning saying that a wanted terror kingpin was detected among the 486 suspected Boko Haram members arrested while traveling along the Enugu - Port Harcourt road on Sunday June 15th. Update on the screening of 486 arrested travelers in Abia state: wanted terror kingpin nabbed A terror kingpin in the list of wanted terrorists of security forces in Nigeria have been detected in the ongoing screening of the 486 suspects napped while travelling in over 33 Hiace Hummer buses at night along Enugu-Port Harcourt expressway last Sunday.   So far other security agencies including the para-military have joined the screening exercise to ascertain the status of the remaining suspects.  Those identified as possible security risk or illegal immigrants are expected to be identified for further action. FG drops N100b stolen funds charges against Mohammed Abacha

The Federal Government today Wednesday June 18th withdrew the corruption charges filed against Mohammed Abacha, son of former military Head of State, Gen. Sani Abacha, the News Agency of Nigeria reports.   Mohammed who played a major role during his late father's administration is believed to have helped the late dictator launder a lot of stolen funds. The FG had accused Mohammed Abacha of receiving stolen property worth N100.38 billion, many of it kept in foreign countries.   The Federal government recently asked the US govt to return another $500 million recently frozen by the U.S. as part of funds stolen by the late dictator.

Adamawa Assembly begin impeachment proceedings against the state governor

The Adamawa State House of Assembly has commenced impeachment proceedings against the state governor, Murtala Nyako, and his deputy, Bala Ngilari. The Assembly today Wednesday June 18th directed its clerk to serve the governor and his deputy an impeachment notice. Nyako has been having problems with the Assembly members since leaving the PDP to join the APC.

‘Boko Haram plans to bomb Abuja with petrol tankers’ - SSS

The SSS today Wednesday June 18 said the Boko Haram sect is planning to bomb Abuja with petrol tankers within the next few days. The Coordinator of the National Information Centre, Mike Omeri, made this known at a briefing in Abuja alongside the Deputy Director of the DSS, Marilyn Ogar "The Nigerian Security services had received intelligence report to the effect that insurgents intends seizing petrol tankers and plant improvised devices in the tankers and drive them to crowded places in Abuja. “Against this backdrop, we hereby call on the Petrol Tankers Association to be on the red alert and advise their members to report any attempt or seizure of their vehicles to security agencies. “In this wise, Nigerians are also advised to report any broken down tanker in any part of the territory to security agencies. Similarly, we are using this opportunity to appeal to the public to be on the alert particularly when they see any tanker driving dangerously." He said

OAU shut down following days of students' protest over school fees

Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile Ife, has been closed down indefinitely following days of students' protest over increase in their school fees which was the introduced in May. The school administration this afternoon released a statement announcing an indefinite shutdown of the institution and ordered students to vacate its premises by Thursday afternoon, citing 'persistent disruption of normal activities and peace on campus as a result of violent demonstrations by students, led by the Student Union Executive' as their reason for shutting down the school.  "Consequently, all students are directed to vacate their Halls of Residence and the University premises immediately and not later than 12 noon on Thursday, 19th June, 2014. Parents are hereby enjoined to ensure that their children/wards comply with this directive immediately.” the statement read.

2 women jailed 5 months each for slapping a police man in Abuja

An Upper Area court in Zuba, FCT, on Wednesday sentenced two women – Binta Mamman, 35, and Safiya Aliyu, 19, both of Deidei, Abuja, to five months imprisonment for slapping a police man. The women had also been charged with using abusive language and public nuisance.
