Why APC’s Alhassan was declared Taraba governor — Tribunal

The Governorship Election Petition Tribunal for Taraba on Saturday nullified the election of Taraba Governor, Darius Ishaku, of the Peoples Democratic Party. The Tribunal, sitting in Abuja, declared the candidate of the All Progressives Congress and a Minister designate, Aisha Alhassan, as the winner of the April 11 governorship election in the state. The three-member tribunal held that Mr. Ishaku was not validly nominated as candidate of the PDP and therefore did not qualify, from start, to contest the governorship election.

Nigerian emerges world scrabble champion

Jighere Wellington of Nigeria on Sunday morning emerged the new Scrabble champion of the world after defeating Lewis Mackay 4-0 in a Best of Seven series in Perth Australia. The duel which was monitored online by the News Agency of Nigeria kicked off at 2 a.m. Nigerian time with the winner set to emerge after coming tops in seven games. But Wellington, who had already finished first in a 32-Game Scrabble marathon to qualify for the two-man finals, defeated his English opponent in just four games and thus becomes the new World Scrabble Champion.

Taraba judgement: Violence erupts in Wukari

Barely 24 hours after the Taraba State Elections Petition Tribunal nullified the election of the state governor, Darius Ishaku, violence has erupted in Wukari area of the state. Taraba is one of the northern states that has witnessed high amount of ethno-religious crisis in the last few years, with Wukari being a major spot for violence.

MTN CEO resigns over N1.04 trillion Nigeria fine

Sifiso Dabengwa, the Group Chief Executive Officer of telecom company, MTN, has resigned following the massive N1.04 trillion ($5.2 billion) fine imposed on the company by the Nigerian Communications Commission, NCC. MTN was sanctioned by the Nigerian government for failing to disconnect 5.1 million unregistered subscribers.
